An outdoor Wi-Fi mesh system currently costs around \u20ac250 (example: Netgear Orbi RBS50Y Outdoor Satellite<\/a>). I thought it could be done much more cheaply, so last year I simply put a Fritz!WLAN Repeater into an IP65 enclosure.The DIY outdoor Wi-Fi access point has performed brilliantly so far \u2013 whether in rain, snow or outdoor temperatures of minus 20 degrees Celsius.<\/p>\n\n

Running Without Problems for Years<\/h4>\n\n

Apart from occasional hard resets (I can perhaps remember two or three), it has been running without problems for almost four years now (as of January 2023).<\/p>\n\n

In addition to the IP65 enclosure, I bought a surface-mounted socket, an RJ45 coupler, a Schuko plug and a power cable. Total cost including the Fritz!WLAN Repeater 1750E: less than \u20ac100. You also need a LAN cable if you do not want to, or cannot, connect the router to the mesh via Wi-Fi.<\/p>\n\n

DIY difficulty level: Simple.<\/h4>\n\n

However, you should have experience with electrical work when wiring the socket, or ask an electrician to do it.<\/p>\n\n

So far I have had no problems using it outdoors in the enclosure, whether in rain, snow, cold or heat. It has been running like this for more than six months!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Of course, the Fritz repeater can also be connected to the mesh via Wi-Fi; in that case there would have been no need to run a LAN cable into the enclosure.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Because the repeater only just fits into the enclosure, I needed a LAN cable with a very flexible connector, hence the RJ45 coupler connecting it to the longer LAN cable running to the router.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
